Lots of exciting stuff going on here at the moment!!

Farewell Alien!

Farewell Alien!

We are sad to announce the Alien which has kept guard in the dive shop for 4 years has had a breakdown (literally) and will be moving to Dallas Texas.
We will all miss him.
RIP Alien.

The rumours about the store having a major refit during winter have slipped out.
We can now officially state that yes it is true, we are going to spruce up the store a little over winter.
We will start with a fresh lick of paint, then new fixtures, seating area, massive flat screen TV [Nigel's edit : can you tell Andrew wrote this - actually not so massive], new floor, and even a coffee machine [I think he means a new kettle??? We'll have to see on that one].

Dive club Meeting

As always the last Monday evening of every month at Global Dive shop here in Westhaven from 6pm onwards.

Alex Leonard will be giving a presentation on shark preservation.
Unchanged for nearly 400 million years, sharks have been unfairly stereotyped as man’s enemy for a countless number of years.

The rising demand for Shark Fin Soup among Asian countries has seen the rapid decline of many species, but due to the lack of public interest, sharks have quickly become vulnerable and their demise could lead to our own.
As a vital link in the marine food web, sharks keep the marine ecosystems balanced; wiping them out would lead to a global environmental crisis.

There are a few simple things we can do to help raise awareness and protect these beautiful creatures from becoming extinct.
One of Project Aware’s current global initiatives is Protect the Sharks.
Have a look at their site;  http://www.projectaware.org/english/global_initiatives/protect_the_sharks.aspx

Stop by Global Dive’s Club night on Monday 29 June to find out more.

New website, Facebook, RSS feeds, etc

Well aren’t we all very high tech all of a sudden!
We’ve got:

  • A new website – you are obviously checking it out – all nice and clean and up-to-date
  • A Facebook page – we’ve got stacks of friends, but you can’t have too many so add yourself
  • An RSS feed

All credit for these goes to Tara who has worked tirelessly to make them happen.  Thank you so much Tara!
Now the job is to keep them up to date, and that’s where you guys can all help by sending in your news items, trip reports and photos and we’ll get them up.

So if like me you thought an RSS feed was a bad BBQ (or is that an RS feed) then make sure you’re here for dive club and we’ll get Tara to run us through how it all works.

Scubapro Now In Stock

We are pleased to announce that Scubapro is back at Global Dive!!

As a top quality performance brand, we felt the range would fit in well at Global Dive. New and in store is the amazing new A700 reg.
This is a hand made, all metal second stage with the lowest Work of Breathing of any regulator on the market.

The full range will be landing in September, until then we will be slowly building up stock, including coloured faces plates for your S600 regs and of course DIN conversion kits.
