If you want to learn to scuba dive, the first step is to do a PADI Open Water Diver course.
Within a few days, you can be enjoying the underwater world. And what could be simpler than learning right in the centre of Auckland!

We run Open Water dive courses in central Auckland most weeks.
Courses are run in small groups over three weeks, giving plenty of time for you to become comfortable with diving concepts and to master the necessary skills as an open water diver.

There are two course options to choose from:

Option 1 – PADI Open Water course

Training is conducted over a series of classroom and pool sessions, followed by your open-water dives.

Your course includes four open water dives.

It is important that as part of your training you get to dive in a number of different situations, as once you are certified there are many options as to where you can dive. Because of this we conduct two of your open water dives in fresh water (in a local lake) and two in salt water (at a local marine reserve).

The price of this course is $549.

All of your scuba equipment is supplied, but you will need to supply your own snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel and fins).
If you decide to buy a mask/snorkel/fin/boot set from us we will give you 15% discount off your purchase, or you can hire them for the duration of your course for $50!

On completion of your course you will graduate with an internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver qualification that will enable you to dive the world over.

If you’re busy, or just prefer to study at your own pace, it is now also possible to do the theory part of your open water course online, and join us for the pool and open water dives.

For more information on eLearning – click here

Option 2 – Private PADI Open Water course

If you would prefer to do a private course with your own instructor we can put together a customised training programme to suit your availability.

Fully private course – private instruction with your open water dives conducted in a local lake (2) and at a local marine reserve (2) – NZ$1,299 for 1 person, NZ$749 each for 2-3 people, or NZ$649 each for 4 or more people.

If you prefer we can also run this course off your own boat.

A part private/part group course – private instruction for your theory and pool sessions and then group instruction for your open water dives. Note that in order to do this option the timing of your open water dives must coincide with our normal dive course schedule – NZ$699 for 1-3 people, or NZ$599 for 4 or more people

On completion of your course you will graduate with an internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver qualification that will enable you to dive the world over.
Before booking any learn to dive course, make sure you have the following questions (on our Frequently Asked Questions page, answered.

The only other additional item is a dive medical (see below) which will cost you the price of a doctor’s visit.

Click here for detailed course information.

Not sure if a full-blown course is for you? Come down to the pool and try scuba with one of our instructors.

Stop putting it off – you know you want to do it!

The PADI Open Water Diver course is, by far, the world’s most popular scuba certification course.
The PADI Open Water Diver Course online provides the knowledge development portion you need. You develop the remaining skills by actually diving with a PADI Instructor at Global Dive.

At your own pace complete knowledge assessments

Short quizzes let you gauge your progress, and review and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the program efficiently and at your own pace.

Click here to view a eLearning demonstration.

What does it cost?

Payment is US$120 for eLearning via a secure online payment system.
Plus $NZ499 to Global Dive for in-water training and equipment rental on scheduled group courses or $1199 for private one-on-one courses.

The PADI Open Water Diver Course online is $120 (US) nonrefundable. The fee covers your knowledge development training and gives you unlimited access to an electronic version of the PADI Open Water Diver Manual (course textbook).

Before learning to dive or enrolling on any dive course, make sure that you can answer the following questions. Not all dive courses are created equal, and your learning experience will be greatly different depending on how you answer these questions!

Question 1: What equipment is supplied?

Most dive companies use the cheapest gear they can for their students and for rental gear, but not us. We only use the best – weight integrated BCDs, fully balanced regulators, dive computers – the works!

At Global Dive we believe you need to try before you buy, so we’ll give you the chance to try a few different options while you do your course. After completing your course you will have a much better understanding of exactly what you would like to buy. Or perhaps you’ll just be happy to rent equipment when you want to dive.

Question 2: How many people will be on my course?

We are not a “sausage factory”. We do not train large anonymous groups.

Learning to dive is a personal and for many people a life changing experience. Our goal is to be a part in that and introduce you to the diving experience.

Question 3: What happens after I finish my course?

Some dive companies seem interested only in training as many students as possible, selling them gear, and saying goodbye.

We at Global Dive take a different approach – we want to introduce you to the “diving experience”, and your learn to dive course is just the beginning of your diving adventure. How do we do that?

1. Our active dive club is out and about most weekends to all sorts of exciting locations and diving experiences – wrecks, reefs and more.
2. New Zealand has a lot to offer, but an overseas dive trip opens a whole new world! We run regular overseas group dive trips and can arrange diving holidays almost anywhere in the world.
3. Advanced courses and specialty courses help you make the most of new experiences.
4. And for those who think a career in diving sounds like the business, divemaster and instructor internships are the best way to learn. It’s not just the course – we give you valuable hands on experience in working for a leading dive centre.
